Discovering New Trails with AllTrails

I love to hike. It is a great opportunity for me to bond with Louie. Finding new trails can be challenging. But there are great tools available that make it easier. One of the apps I have been using is called AllTrails. It’s available for Android and Apple devices.

What You Can Do with App Trails

  • Browse trails near you

  • View trail topographical maps

  • Create, save and share tracks

  • Edit trails or add new ones

Downloadable Maps

The places I like to go hiking tend to not have great phone or internet coverage. This makes my phone useless if I need to use it to consult a map and get around the parks I am hiking in. If you have the pro version of the app, you can use download park maps and use them offline. It is a great way to ensure you can find your way back to the place where you started. Some of these trails can be difficult to navigate.

Discovering New Trails

AllTrails uses your phone’s GPS to help you find hiking trails near you. It displays the name of the trail, rating given by AllTrail users, and location. The filtering option lets you narrow down the trails by easy, moderate, or hard trails. You can also filter by length, expected duration to complete the trail, route type (loop, out and back, and point-to-point). Filtering will help you find the perfect trail to tackle.

Tracking Your Steps

I love tracking my steps. While I generally rely on my FitBit to help me keep track of the distance and total number ot steps I have taken throughout the day, I don’t always wear it. Using AllTrails is a great way to track my steps. I already use the maps anyway. Tracking steps is just a bonus. And a welcomed one at that.
